βΌοΈ Join The Ledger for a live-stream video of todayβs Meck Dec re-enactment from uptown

If the Meck Dec is real, this is what its signing might have looked like, according to artificial intelligence program ChatGPT, based on the available historical information. (Ledger photo illustration by ChatGPT)
Happy Meck Dec Day to all who celebrate.
Today, in the spirit of innovation, weβre trying something new:
β‘οΈ Weβre going to live-stream todayβs ceremony marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence, straight from Trade and Tryon streets uptown at around 12:00 today (Tuesday).
From what we understand, there will be historical re-enactments with people in colonial garb, music, cannons, Captain Jack on horseback and the reading of the Meck Dec β which is said to have declared independence from Britain right here in Charlotte, on May 20, 1775, more than a year before the historically verified Declaration of Independence. Todayβs event is expected to last about 45-50 minutes.
If you want to check it out β and if our technology works the way we think it should β you can watch live with us.
Hereβs how it will work:
1. Youβll need the Substack app on your phone. Download it here:
2. Look for an email from us around 12:00 today (Tuesday). It will contain a link to the live video stream.
3. If you miss it and want to catch the action, weβll post a link later today on our website and also link to it from our regular newsletter tomorrow morning.
(Man, if they only had this technology available in 1775β¦)
We hope to see you then!
P.S. Let us know what you think. We like experimenting with new ways to deliver local information to you.
