Your usual guide through Charlotte real estate, Ashley Fahey, is off this week, so you’re stuck with me, Tony Mecia, captaining today’s edition of Charlotte Commercial Real Estate Whispers. We’re keeping our ears on the chatter and trends that in-the-know people in Charlotte are talking about to keep you informed about growth and development. Got a tip or a question on something you see out there? Or info on a deal, a development or a debacle that you have to tell someone about? You can drop me a line, or send it to Ashley. She’ll be back next week.

You can add and drop newsletters from The Charlotte Ledger — including this one — on your “Manage Your Subscriptions” page.

In today’s edition:

  1. A Wegmans next door? Housing plans at Ballantyne Reimagined call for nearly 500 homes down the street from Wegmans.

  2. 🚨 Big land deal: YMCA to sell Morrison YMCA to a church — will close in summer 2027

  3. Homebuilders say they’re taking note of “incredible” apartment amenities in building and marketing houses.

  4. A revision is incoming on the “157-people-moving-here-a-day” figure.

  5. Matthews is likely to change its development ordinance to be more pickleball-friendly.

  6. The 40-year-old old PTL tower appears headed toward demolition, plus other local development news from other reliable sources.

Let’s get into it!

Ballantyne building boom: Bulldozers are clearing land for nearly 500 new homes on a 37-acre site at Ballantyne Reimagined

The view from North Community House Road this week shows a 37-acre site abutting I-485 being cleared. It’s just down the street from the under-construction Wegmans.

The next phase of the huge Ballantyne Reimagined project appears to be underway, with land being cleared for hundreds of new homes that will be just a short walk to the much-hyped Wegmans grocery store scheduled to open in October.
