Boutique hotel being mulled at 99-year-old uptown building

An uptown building that’s nearly a century old is being eyed for new life as a boutique hotel, but the project is still in preliminary stages.

Steven Radney of Onwards Hospitality presented a vision for the Builders Building, at 312 W. Trade St. (across from the TradeMark condo tower), at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Historic Landmarks Commission on Monday evening. Whispers called Radney this week following that meeting, and he told us that he’d like to adaptively reuse the Builders Building, which was built in 1927, into a high-end, boutique hotel with 20 to 25 rooms.
