Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is expected to come to Charlotte next month to deliver remarks to the Charlotte Economics Club in uptown.

The club, which hosts regular speakers on economic topics, sent an email to sponsors on Friday saying that Bessent is expected to deliver remarks at a lunch meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 2, at an undisclosed location in uptown. The Ledger is the Charlotte Economics Club’s media partner.

The email said the event is not open to the public – only to members and sponsors of the Charlotte Economics Club.

The Treasury secretary is appointed by the president and is the federal government’s top financial and economic official.

Bessent is a South Carolina native who has served as President Donald Trump’s Treasury secretary since January 2025. Before joining the administration, he founded the investment firm Key Square Capital Management and was chief investment officer at Soros Fund Management. He also taught economic history at Yale University, his alma mater.

The date of the planned remarks in Charlotte comes after the conclusion of a meeting of G20 finance ministers in Asheville, which runs from Aug. 29 to Sept. 1.

Previous Treasury secretaries to visit the Charlotte region include Janet Yellen, who visited a lithium operation in Gaston County in 2023, and Timothy Geithner, who visited Siemens Energy in Charlotte in 2012.
