The Blossom Shop, a nearly century-old flower shop in Charlotte, will begin construction on another location in the coming months.

An entity called Twelve Stars LLC, which is affiliated with The Blossom Shop, paid $3.2M in February for the 6,663 sq. ft. building at 918 E. Morehead St., according to Mecklenburg County real estate records. The site is across Morehead from Dilworth Neighborhood Grille.

The site had been the home of Long's Dry Cleaning & Laundry, which closed in 2021.

The Blossom Shop will remain at its nearby Myers Park address, at 1500 E. Morehead St., according to Gantt Howell, senior advisor at MECA Commercial Real Estate, who represented The Blossom Shop in the sale. (Will Whitley and Scott Mileham at New South Properties represented the seller in the deal.)

The building, which dates to 1939 and has unique architectural features like a large barrel roof, will be preserved and renovated under The Blossom Shop ownership. The Blossom Shop will have retail operations, production and office space at the 918 East Morehead address.

Howell said, as a native Charlottean, he had been contemplating the site for a long time and has memories from childhood of going with his mom to Long’s Dry Cleaners and getting a lollipop.

The Blossom Shop will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2029, Howell said, so it’s fitting that the building will be home to another longtime Charlotte business, after Long’s Dry Cleaning & Laundry had occupied it for decades.

Construction work is expected to begin in the third quarter, once permits have been obtained, and The Blossom Shop could open at the site by summer 2027.
