PBS Charlotte/WTVI will be looking for a new permanent leader, as general manager Amy Burkett has departed after 13 years at the station.

Burkett told The Ledger that she left the station, which is operated by Central Piedmont Community College, to focus on her leadership consulting business, Amy Burkett Consulting Next Level Leadership.

“It has been such an extraordinary honor having the opportunity to lead the renaissance of PBS Charlotte for Central Piedmont Community College,” she said. “I’ve loved every minute of working with this great community.”

In her time at PBS Charlotte, Burkett led a financial turnaround, expanded local programming and built a stronger base of community donors, she told The Charlotte Ledger Podcast earlier this year. Under her leadership, the station won multiple Emmy Awards, launched new shows and documentaries, expanded educational initiatives and strengthened its digital presence.

Burkett also served as the on-air host of “Carolina Impact,” PBS Charlotte's weekly newsmagazine.

In a statement to The Ledger, Central Piedmont said: “We appreciate Amy Burkett's many years of service to Central Piedmont, PBS Charlotte/WTVI and the Charlotte community.” It said the school’s vice president for communications, advancement and external affairs, Catherine Butler, is leading the station on an interim basis “while the college determines the best path forward for the station's leadership.” –Tony Mecia
