New board chair was convicted of felony fraud in 2008; now says ‘everything I do is rooted in integrity’

New school board chair Gregory “Dee” Rankin says he’s learned from past mistakes, including a two-decades-old felony conviction.

WSOC reported this week that Rankin pleaded guilty in 2008 to conspiring with others to commit mail, bank and wire fraud as part of a $20M mortgage-fraud scheme involving false loan applications and kickbacks.
