Mecklenburg County Manager Mike Bryant says that despite the $730M+ the county allocated to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in its most recent budget, the Board of County Commissioners is limited in what it can do amid multiple investigations into allegations of financial misconduct by CMS.
He acknowledged during the commissioners’ board meeting on Tuesday night that a Sept. 22 email sent to him from former Superintendent Crystal Hill claimed that mismanaged funds involved county dollars.
“The alleged misuse of local funds for questionable CMS transactions is concerning,” Bryant told the board at its meeting Tuesday evening.
He said that as three separate investigations are underway, his office has been exploring what options might be available to the county.
