It’s Election Day.
Sure, there’s a presidential race on the ballot. But it doesn’t seem that exciting, at least not for now.
Most of the action in today’s primary is on state and local races. In a primary, voters determine who will be on the general election ballot in November.
By tonight, we should know the answers to these questions:
Will the Mecklenburg County commission have new members? In the Democratic primary, three incumbents are facing two challengers for three seats, and longtime commissioners Vilma Leake and George Dunlap have primary opponents, too.
Will Democratic U.S. Rep. Jeff Jackson win the primary for N.C. attorney general? The winner will face Republican former Mecklenburg commissioner and U.S. Rep. Dan Bishop in November.
Who will Republicans select to represent a Congressional district composed of south Charlotte, Matthews and counties to the east such as Union and Anson? N.C. Rep. John Bradford, pastor Mark Harris and four others are running in the Republican primary, and the winner will be favored in November.
Which Democrat in a south Charlotte N.C. House district will win the right to take on former Democrat Tricia Cotham, whose party switch last year gave a legislative supermajority to Republicans?

Unaffiliateds: Which ballot to choose? Hmm, tough one. If you care mostly about the presidential election, Joe Biden is the only candidate for Democrats, while there are 7 candidates on the Republican ballot (only 2 — Donald Trump and Nikki Haley — are actively campaigning). There are plenty of intriguing statewide and local match-ups in the Republican and Democratic primaries. The Libertarian ballot has 10 candidates for president and 2 for governor.
