Voting information, election insights and a look at what's at stake in Charlotte and beyond

Good morning! It’s Election Day.

The polls are open now until 7:30 p.m. If you’re looking for trustworthy insights on everything on your ballot, be sure to check out The Election Hub, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that The Ledger has partnered with to provide reliable voter information.

I’ve talked to several political pros in the past week from across the political spectrum. The theme they see emerging from today’s election is: How far will Democrats’ gains extend?

Polls, early voting turnout and historical patterns have led experts to predict Democrats will flip the U.S. House to Democratic control, while the battle for the U.S. Senate remains much closer, with control considered a toss-up.

Local political watchers are also wondering if the momentum will extend to Democrats picking up 12 net seats in the 120-seat N.C. House to take control of that chamber for the first time in 16 years.

There’s plenty more on the ballot here in Charlotte, too — judgeships, N.C. constitutional amendments, bonds and other races.

The Ledger’s team, in conjunction with The Election Hub, will be out talking to voters today and working to make sense of what voters decide. Look for our report, with full results, context and analysis, in an email first thing on Wednesday.
