Some parents are opposing a CMS change that subtracts algebra for 6th-graders
Some Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools parents are objecting to a change that limits the ability of high-flying 6th-graders to take algebra two years ahead of most of their peers. [Edited on 12/11/24 to remove the word “policy” from the first and fifth paragraphs.]
Beginning next year, the only 6th graders allowed to take algebra — known in CMS as “Math 1” — will be those in the CMS Horizons program for gifted students at Randolph Middle School.
