In today’s edition:

  • Charlotte’s planning director talks about the city’s population growth trajectory (and the 2050 plan will be in motion before you know it)

  • Building near the Lynx Blue Line Old Concord Station could be poised for an adaptive reuse

  • Chicken wing chain and a mattress store for a visible site in Plaza Midwood?

  • And a wrap-up of land deals and real estate news from us and other sources

How the new kids on the block view the Queen City

We have a lot of newcomers in Charlotte — and while that includes people, it also means new businesses and corporate investors.

Urban Land Institute (ULI) Charlotte recently invited me to host an episode of their podcast, Building Connections. I spoke with two newcomers (ish) to Charlotte’s development market: Adam McMichael, managing director at Republic Development Group, and Paul Zarian, Carolinas managing director at Hines.

(It should be noted that Hines has a bit of history here, but the Houston-based commercial real estate firm has significantly expanded its Charlotte presence in recent years.)
