The campaign to persuade voters to approve the Mecklenburg transit and transportation sales tax reported raising $1.7M from businesses through mid-October, according to campaign finance documents made available Wednesday.

In a report filed with the State Board of Elections this week, the Coalition for a Better 2050 detailed its receipts and expenses, as required by state law. It is an organization run by the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance, which has been a major backer of the transit and transportation plan and has said it planned to raise $3M to support the effort.

The report shows that many of Charlotte’s biggest and best-known companies have donated to the “yes” campaign, including professional sports teams, real estate developers, construction companies and several of the city’s Fortune 500 firms. The largest donor, the report says, was Atrium Health ($250,000), followed by infrastructure design and consulting firm HNTB Corp. ($105,000) and Hornets Sports and Entertainment ($55,000).
