Big office blocks are getting snapped up. What’s left?
Two big blocks of uptown office space — at 301 S. College St., the “jukebox” building, and at One Independence Center — were snapped up earlier this year by Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp. and Capital Group respectively, a notable shift in a post-pandemic world where lots of big spaces in older buildings have sat empty.
Those two deals alone accounted for effectively 400,000 sq. ft. of office space, and they’re not the only companies seeking to open a large office (or expand an existing one) in Charlotte, at a time when the desirable “trophy” office space is mostly leased.
All of this prompted a question: Where are some of the biggest vacancies in Charlotte’s office market today?
