Holocaust museum proposed for uptown; lease negotiations, fundraising campaign are underway

by Ashley Fahey

Uptown Charlotte may soon welcome another museum — one that would include the stories of local Holocaust survivors.

The Stan Greenspon Holocaust Education Center, a nonprofit that started at Queens University but recently spun out to become an independent entity, has started fundraising and negotiating a space for a museum in uptown, which may be called the Holocaust Museum of the Carolinas. The project is in early stages, but being an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit allows the Greenspon Center to officially move ahead with the idea, said Judy LaPietra, the center’s director, whose academic and professional background is in Holocaust education.
